• the curbgag is a combination of a pelham and a loose ring bit
• the rings are loose and equipped with eyelets through which the curb strap runs
• this bit encourages the horse to straighten up
• the pressure is applied to the poll and the corners of the mouth
• the mouthpiece can be used with one or 2 reins
• usually 2 pairs of reins are used
• one rein is buckled to the large ring and the other rein to the ring of the cheekpiece
• in this way, the pull-on effect can be better controlled
• the normal cheekpiece of the bridle is replaced by the cheekpiece on this bit

• the material develops a sweet-tasting surface rust on contact with moisture
• this naturally stimulates the horse's saliva production and increases the acceptance of the bit
